Used Car Loan and EMI in Telangana

Last updated 2 September 2026 7 min readBy the team at Sri Laxmi Pre-owned Carz, Warangal

Used-car loans in India typically carry 11–18% annual interest, cover 70–85% of the car's valuation, and run up to five years. On a ₹3 lakh loan at 13% you would pay roughly ₹8,050 a month over four years. Approval usually needs Aadhaar, PAN, address proof and three months of bank statements.

How used-car finance differs from a new-car loan

Lenders price used-car loans higher because the collateral is depreciating and harder to value. Expect an interest rate roughly 2 to 5 percentage points above a new-car loan, a lower loan-to-value ratio, and a shorter maximum tenure. The lender also caps how old the car can be at the end of the loan — commonly 10 years.

ParameterTypical rangeWhat moves it

Tenure1 – 5 yearsCar age; near-new cars may stretch to 7

Rates are indicative for 2026 and vary by lender and applicant. Always compare the annual percentage rate including processing fee, not the headline rate.

What your EMI actually looks like

The table below is a ₹3,00,000 loan at 13% annual interest — a realistic mid-market rate for a used-car loan in Telangana. Note how much total interest a longer tenure costs you, even though the monthly figure looks friendlier.

TenureMonthly EMITotal interest paidTotal repaid
3 years (36 months)₹10,110₹63,900₹3,63,900
4 years (48 months)₹8,050₹86,300₹3,86,300
5 years (60 months)₹6,830₹1,09,600₹4,09,600

The rule of thumb: take the shortest tenure whose EMI you can comfortably service. Stretching from three years to five on this loan costs you an extra ₹45,700 in interest to save ₹3,280 a month.

Eligibility

  • Age between 21 and 65 at loan maturity
  • Salaried applicants: stable employment, usually a minimum monthly income around ₹15,000–₹20,000
  • Self-employed applicants: two years of business continuity and filed ITRs
  • A credit score above roughly 700 gets you the better end of the rate range; below 650 usually means an NBFC at a higher rate
  • The car itself must be within the lender's age limit and pass its valuation

Documents for approval

  • Aadhaar card and PAN card
  • Address proof — Aadhaar, utility bill, rent agreement or passport
  • Income proof — last three months' salary slips, or two years of ITR if self-employed
  • Bank statements for the last three to six months
  • Two passport-size photographs
  • The car's RC, insurance and valuation report (we provide these)

With a complete document set, most approvals on our lot come through the same day, and delivery follows once the RC transfer paperwork is filed.

Practical advice before you sign

  • Put down the largest down payment you can — every extra rupee down is a rupee you do not pay interest on.
  • Check the foreclosure clause. Some lenders charge 3–5% to close early, which matters if you plan to prepay.
  • Confirm the hypothecation will be recorded on the RC (Form 34) and that you will get Form 35 and an NOC when the loan closes.
  • Insure for the full value, not the minimum third party. A total loss on a financed car with third-party-only cover leaves you paying EMIs on a car you no longer have.
  • Never sign a blank loan document or a delivery order before the paperwork is complete.

Frequently asked questions

What is the interest rate on a used car loan in Telangana?

Typically 11% to 18% per year. Banks sit at the lower end for salaried applicants with strong credit scores; NBFCs go higher but approve thinner profiles. Older cars and longer tenures attract higher rates.

How much down payment is needed for a used car?

Usually 15% to 30% of the car's valuation, since lenders finance 70% to 85%. On a ₹5 lakh car that means roughly ₹75,000 to ₹1,50,000 down, plus insurance and RTO transfer costs.

Can I get a used car loan with a low credit score?

Often yes, through an NBFC rather than a bank, but at a higher interest rate and a lower loan-to-value ratio. A larger down payment or a co-applicant with a stronger score improves both the approval odds and the rate.

How is used car EMI calculated?

EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n the number of months. A ₹3 lakh loan at 13% over 48 months works out to about ₹8,050 a month.
